What Is SR-9009?
Short answer: SR-9009 is a synthetic Rev-Erb agonist, also called stenabolic. PubChem CID 57394020 lists formula C20H24ClN3O4S and molecular weight 437.9 g/mol (CAS synonym 1379686-30-2). To buy SR-9009 as a documented research oil, see the product page.
Rev-Erb agonism: the research picture
Rev-Erbα/β (NR1D1/NR1D2) are nuclear receptors that repress transcription as part of circadian clock circuitry. Solt and colleagues described synthetic agonists including SR9009 as chemical tools for that receptor class (Solt et al., Nature 2012, PMID 22460951).
Step 1 — Receptor class. Rev-Erb proteins bind heme and act mainly as transcriptional repressors in clock and metabolic gene programs.
Step 2 — Synthetic agonist tool. SR9009 was introduced among synthetic ligands used to activate Rev-Erb-dependent reporter and gene-regulation assays in the founding Nature paper.
Step 3 — Read the caveats. Later work reported that SR9009 can also affect proliferation and metabolism through Rev-Erb-independent routes in some cellular systems (Dierickx et al., 2019, PMID 31127047). Interpretation: treat “Rev-Erb agonist” as the design class, and verify mechanism claims against the specific assay cited.
Step 4 — Analytical identity. Certificates confirm the material with chromatographic assay methods; they do not prove a biological mechanism by themselves.

What this tells us: SR-9009 is a nitrothiophene-containing tertiary amine carbamate — a small molecule, not a peptide and not a SARM.
SR-9009 compared with cardarine (GW501516)
Cardarine is a PPAR-δ agonist (see What Is Cardarine?). SR-9009 targets Rev-Erb nuclear receptors. Autocomplete often pairs “stenabolic vs cardarine”; chemically they are different receptor tools.

Frequently asked questions
What is SR-9009?
SR-9009 is a synthetic small-molecule agonist of the Rev-Erb nuclear receptors (NR1D1/NR1D2), also called stenabolic. PubChem CID 57394020 lists formula C20H24ClN3O4S, molecular weight 437.9 g/mol, and depositor synonym CAS 1379686-30-2.
Is SR-9009 a SARM?
No. SR-9009 is not a selective androgen receptor modulator. It is studied as a Rev-Erb agonist. Confusing it with SARMs mixes two different receptor classes.
Is stenabolic the same as SR-9009?
Yes. Stenabolic is the common name for SR-9009. Match lots with CAS 1379686-30-2 and InChIKey MMJJNHOIVCGAAP-UHFFFAOYSA-N when names disagree.
How does SR-9009 relate to Rev-Erb receptors?
Solt and colleagues introduced SR9009 among synthetic Rev-Erb agonists used to probe circadian and metabolic transcription programs (PMID 22460951). Later work also reported Rev-Erb-independent cellular effects for SR9009 (PMID 31127047), so mechanism claims should stay tied to the cited assay.
How is SR-9009 purity verified at Modern Aminos?
All applicable tests are performed on our products. The Certificate of Analysis tab on the product page lists current third-party results; certificates can also be found via COA Search.
